try something new for thirty days

Please watch this video!  I am going to try something new every month for the rest of the year.
Starting today, I have decided to give up meat for thirty days.  Sure, that isn't groundbreaking for me or anything; I was a vegetarian for many years, but I'd still like to do it for a month just to give my system a break.  Cooking household friendly fare has increased my rate of carnivorism (it isn't a word, but it should be) tenfold.  I used to have sushi once or twice a week, chicken maybe once or twice a week, and red meat once every other week or so.  My body is much happier with that arrangement.  My stomach has a tough time digesting red meat.  I feel tired, cranky, sluggish, and often times ill after eating it.  Pork and venison have actually caused me to vomit on more than one occasion, so at least I learned to stay away from those meats. With my cousin and the boys in the house I am eating meat every day, and red meat several times a week.  It is easier to share groceries that way.  Unfortunately, this arrangement has taken a toll on my body.  I gained weight, feel less energetic, am hungrier, and frequently have bad stomach aches.  Thank god I never have constipation or other bowel issues, but the stomach aches alone are pretty unpleasant.
I have literally hit a point where I will be eating some meat filled dinner while daydreaming about salad and grilled vegetables.  I know.  It is ridiculous.  What kind of fool daydreams about grilled summer squash?  I am just such a fool.  There is nothing wrong with meat eating, but my poor self simply can't handle this much of it. So why give up meat totally for one month if I don't want to fully go back to being a vegetarian?
When I limit my intake of meatsies my weight drops down ten pounds in about eight weeks without any other effort on my part. Not eating any meat at all makes that ten pounds drop off in one month instead of two.  That is a definite bonus.  Getting protein from eggs, cheese, beans, greek yogurt, and other sources also results in cheaper grocery bills.  I will have an easier time just cutting meat out entirely for one month, than trying to pick and choose when to eat it.
The combination of stomach aches, stress, uterine cramps, and other illnesses has just gotten ridiculous, and I need to make some changes.  Yes, there are certain things that are out of my hands, but there are other things that I am responsible for.  My immune system is shot.  I have never been sick so many times in one winter in my life.  I went from eating tons of salads, fruits and vegetables, and swimming in the ocean every week, to eating ground beef, processed foods, and taking naps regularly.  AHHHHH!  Danger, Will Robinson!!!!!
I need to take charge of myself, and stop being idle.  Letting my body's needs go to hell for the sake of being able to share the same food at dinner time is plain stupidity.
Wish me luck.  I'll be meat free until the sixth of March!!

  2. WOOT WOOT! That nerdy guy makes some good points, doesn't he? I am going to try a new thing every month just to see what happens by the end of the year. This is a year for growth, change, and adventures!! I've spent enough time being too afraid to try things.
Let's rock this shit out, girl.

  3. I am so gonna do that!

I think I will watercolor for the next 30 days. I want to say I will start later, but that would be copy-outy. So it shall be! I start in the morn!

I dream of salad and summer squash. I have eaten so much chicken that I have sprouted pin feathers... and my boobs are not the least plumper from the hormones!

    1. What a team! You have been an ass kicker since the beginning Munch, telling me to pick one thing and do it. Thanks! I think I'll listen now!

    2. Oooh, you should post some of your watercolors in your blog. I can't wait to post pics of my art fair adventures.
I used to really like chicken, but since I have moved back to Wisconsin I have been eating so much meat of every kind that I am just plain sick of it. The other night I was going to cook this chicken-thing that the kids like, but I couldn't force myself to do it. Even thinking about the smell of it was making me feel disgusted.

  4. What a great idea, this is! I need to find something that I can commit to, aside from 'taking 30 days of naps' as that doesn't sound very productive. Hmm. I will think about this. The meat idea, from the looks of the changes it's already produced by your eliminating it sounds like a no brainer. I hope you feel incredible afterwards.

  5. Definitely doable, and it sounds like your body just doesn't respond to meat as well as others (some people are allergic to pork).

Good luck with the doctor tomorrow- please let us know how it goes!

    1. I think that I am allergic to pork, because it makes me pretty sick pretty fast. I do eat chorizo every so often because it is so dang tasty, but I usually regret it right away.

    1. Thanks Jewlz. I have been double posting on this blog and the 3fc one for a long time, but I prefer this one. 3fc makes me feel kinda limited.
